Bradford Council nursery set to close

1 min read Early Years
A nursery for children of staff working for Bradford Council is shutting down because it is no longer financially viable.

Cavell House nursery has been caring for the children of Bradford council employees for 17 years, but the local authority says it cannot continue. Until March last year it was subsidised by the local authority to the tune of £200,000 a year.

Parents of children at the 78-place nursery have started a petition to keep it open. However, the council maintains the nursery must close its doors in August this year.

Robin Naylor, head of early years and childcare at Bradford Council, said: "After a wide range of measures to improve the financial standing of the centre, including increasing the number of children and broadening the eligibility of places to a wider group of parents, the point has been reached where, unfortunately, we have had to decide it is no longer financially viable."
