Best Practice: Baby massage - A hands-on way for dads to get to grips with fatherhood

1 min read
Wishing Well Children's Centre in Essex is launching an exclusive "dads-only" baby massage course this month as part of its long-term aim to get more local fathers through the door.

Baby massage has long been recognised for having excellent health benefits. It can strengthen bonds, reduce stress, alleviate the pain of teething and constipation, help prevent colic and induce sleep. Now Wishing Well, based in Rochford, is running a five-week course in the hope that the exclusive environment will help to put men at ease and increase their attendance at the centre.

"Dads can find spending quality time with their baby a challenge, especially when they return to work and their routines become really chaotic," said Andy Uzzell, dads lead at 4Children, which runs the centre.

He said: "Lots of dads are wary at the beginning but knowing that it's a 'dads-only' affair and that massage has huge health benefits for their baby really helps to build confidence, strengthens the bond and provides some great tips for helping them in their new, demanding role."
