Paramedics rushed 15-year-old James Wiles to Sheffield Children's Hospital after a disturbance at his home in February this year. Their efforts were in vain. James was pronounced dead in hospital. The local paper, the Sheffield Star, gave the facts supplied by police and hospital.
Its reporter also described the scene on the estate: "A group of teenage girls sobbed outside the house as news of the tragedy broke."
A Sheffield Futures youth worker who knew James described his death as "such a waste of a young life". The young people who knew him were "distraught", she said. Youth workers would be on the streets of Westfield Estate that night offering support to young people, she told the newspaper. "That's all we can do, everyone will be so upset - we just need to be there for them," she said.
