BASW seeks social care bill changes

Social Care
BASW - The College of Social Work is calling for significant amendments to the Health and Social Care Bill.

Under the bill, The Health and Care Professionals Council will take over responsibility for regulating social work in 2012. But the organisation has described the council's name as "absurd" because it does not mention social work.

"To call the body anything other than the Social Work and Health Professions Council will be regarded as an insult to social workers," it argues.

BASW is also calling for a number of other amendments to the bill. These include ensuring that the social work title is protected and the creation of a chief social worker post to advise ministers.
