Last week, The Wokingham Times sent a reporter down to Wokingham Youth Centre. She came back with an extensive profile of work done at the centre. It focused on fun and achievement through activities ranging from dance classes to fundraising for an ambitious project to visit Cape Town.
Area youth work manager Richard Ferguson was given space to explain how the centre also reaches out to young people who feel excluded, and plays a role in combating both antisocial behaviour and misconceptions about young people. "Often, they are not being antisocial but they can appear to be to other people," said Ferguson. "It can be fear of crime or other young people. A lot of that is perception."
