- School inspectors are timing how long pupils in Wales spend on personal reflection to ensure schools meet the law on acts of worship, according to the Western Mail.

"Teachers said yesterday there had been cases of inspectors standingwith stopwatch in hand as pupils ponder spiritual and moral issues," thepaper reports. "Anything less than 20 seconds reflection and the schoolcan fail, according to the Association of School and CollegeLeaders."

The story certainly re-opens the debate on whether legislation thatrequires a daily act of worship in schools is workable or evendesirable.

- Meanwhile lessons about terrorism are just around the corner forschool pupils, under new guidance on preparing the public for attacks,reveals The Scotsman.

Sessions would be best directed at children over the age of 14,Professor David Alexander of the Aberdeen Centre for Trauma Research,tells the paper. He adds: "It would be a mistake to leave childrenthinking about this as some kind of mystery. But we have to inform themin a way that does not cause alarm."
