Baby brasseries in Bedfordshire

1 min read Early Years

What are they? The baby brasseries are cafe-style drop-in sessions held in children's centres across Bedfordshire to help encourage breastfeeding among mums. The sessions are informal and provide mums with the chance to access information, talk to experts and share experiences with each other. Brasseries now take place in 13 children's centres.

Who is involved? The initiative has been set up by the Unicef baby-friendly co-ordinator for Bedfordshire Community Health Services with assistance from parents who are trained as peer support workers. Also involved is Bedfordshire Community Health Services's 0-19 team. Those involved have all attended a three-day breastfeeding management course. The sessions also offer children's centre staff the chance to promote other sessions and activities for young children and families, and midwives use the brasseries for drop-in sessions.
