Assessments Relating to Learning Difficulties - Guidance to Local Authorities.

Education Health
The Department for Children, Schools and Families is seeking views on guidance for local authorities for arranging assessments of young people with learning difficulties.

It aims to ensure that young people with learning difficulties make a successful transition to further education or training after the age of 16.

Changes in the Education and Skills Act 2008 mean local authorities now have legal responsibility for the assessments, previously carried out by Connexions.

The guidance underpins the government's commitment to making sure that every young person is participating in education or training to age 17 in 2013 and age 18 in 2015. It also supports the proposed transfer of responsibility of 16-19 education and training from the Learning and Skills Council to local authorities in 2010.

Closing date: 16 July.
