A colleague has just disclosed to me in confidence that she is HIV positive. I am worried about anyone else finding out, especially the families that use our service. What should I do?

Your organisation should have an employment policy on working with people with HIV/Aids that should cover confidentiality, support, dealing with discrimination and harassment.

While concerns about HIV/Aids in the workplace might cause anxiety, the actual nature of transmission of the virus means that the legitimate need to know is very limited.

For many people, HIV is a manageable condition that does not prevent them from living healthy lives. But it still carries a stigma.
