Antisocial Behaviour: Community is key to fighting crime

1 min read

David Blunkett is keen to gain the support of the community in dealing with crime, particularly antisocial behaviour among young people.

"We will never turn around antisocial behaviour unless we change the culture around it," he told a conference fringe event earlier this week.

"In parts of my community, generational engagement with crime means crime is the norm."

Blunkett also confirmed that a community justice centre will open in Liverpool next month (YPN, 7-13 July, p2).

The new emphasis was welcomed by Roger Howard, chief executive of Crime Concern, who said: "Young people are not just the problem, they are the solution to the future. If we spend money now, it will save us a fortune later."
