Fair Play for Children is surveying all crime reduction partnerships inEngland by writing to local authority chief executives.
An acceptable behaviour contract is a voluntary agreement betweensomeone involved in anti-social behaviour and the police, housingdepartment, social landlord or school.
Fair Play for Children national secretary Jan Cosgrove said the researchwas sparked by concern about how they're being used and possible humanrights issues.
"There's been a lot on anti-social behaviour orders but precious littleabout how these contracts are implemented," said Cosgrove.
"We're unhappy there's no consistent advice."
He said early results revealed huge variation across the country in useand understanding of contracts but added that people were reporting theyworked.
