An election manifesto is more than just a bid for support; it is the promise of what a party will do if it comes into power. These promises are sometimes broken, but if they are at least the Government can be held to account. So what are the parties promising young people?

The Labour manifesto, a lengthy document presented as a paperback book, offers "a better alternative for young people". In a reference to the youth green paper, it says a Labour government would publish proposals to give all young people "access to a wider set of activities after the school day", and also states again the commitment to youth volunteering that was backed by 100m in last month's Budget.
