Analysis: Conservative Party Conference - Policies with young people in mind

The views of young people are to play a greater part in defining the Conservative Party's next general election manifesto. At the Tories' annual conference in Bournemouth last week, Charles Hendry, shadow minister for young people, admitted the party has neglected young people in the past, but insists this is about to change.

"For the first time we will have issues that are framed with young people in mind," he told Young People Now. "During the last election, we didn't have a single policy developed with the needs and interests of young people first."

Voluntary role

Hendry says the voluntary sector should play a greater part in providing services for young people, with funding coming through local authorities.
