ANALYSIS: Child Protection - Scots take a different route

The size of Scotland means we can get the key people responsible for the care and protection of young people in one room and build a consensus around key priorities."

So said Jack McConnell, Scotland's First Minister, when addressing the Vulnerable and Excluded Children Conference in Edinburgh last week. His speech renewed the Scottish Executive's commitment to reforming child protection, in a way that fits the system in Scotland.

While youth services in England and Wales have been assessing the impact of the ideas set out in the green paper Every Child Matters, their Scottish counterparts have been looking at what, on face value, appear to be a rather different package of reforms.
