The UN defined sustainability as "that which meets the needs of the present without compromising the ability of future generations to meet their own needs".
Children are often passionate about these sorts of issues and have an enormous stake in decisions that will affect the environment they will inherit. Not only do we need to provide more channels for their views, but all young people deserve to have more opportunities to discuss and understand environmental issues.
The Department for Children, Schools and Families' recent shake-up of the geography curriculum puts the environment on the agenda in schools but it is great to see the debate being fuelled in and out of the classroom.
