
There are too many children whose childhoods and wellbeing are affected by poverty, who are struggling with their mental health and wellbeing, and who are not getting the right support when they need it. The work we do daily to support teenagers gives us firsthand experience of how hard life is for some teenagers and families with teenagers.
Children and their families tell us they are having a tough time. Our Good Childhood Report 2023 shows children’s wellbeing has been declining. It found 10% of the 10- to 17-year-olds we surveyed had low wellbeing, and almost a third felt unhappy with at least one specific area of their lives. Fewer than 40% of children felt positive about the future of the UK and the world. Our Feeling the Strain Report 2023 revealed the ongoing cost-of-living crisis is affecting families’ wellbeing, with 23% of parents and carers saying they lived in households in financial strain.
