From The Frontline - Volunteers are worth all the frustration

Many youth workers cling tightly to their position and keep their vision for projects close to their chest; yet in my experience, your vision is only as great as those who own it. Passionate volunteers are a crucial part of youth initiatives.

Take Tim, for example. Two years ago, he started joining in with a football session we were running on a local estate. It had always been his dream to run a football team and he shared this with me. We could have said: "Sorry, you're only a volunteer and it's a nice idea but it's never going to happen." Instead, we agreed Tim should be given the support, training and encouragement that he needed to make the football team a reality.

Two years on and we have a growing group of volunteers and Hub Athletic, the football team Tim set up, is sitting third in the local league.
