Youth workers ‘poorly equipped’ to provide mental health support, research finds

Despite 87 per cent of youth workers saying that they frequently support young people with their mental health, many feel under-equipped to spot the warning signs of distress, according to a report on the role of “trusted adults” by UK Youth and YoungMinds.

The report also highlights that just 54 per cent of youth workers feel supported by mental health specialists in signposting young people in need of greater support.

Recommendations made as part of the report include the creation of a guide to referring young people to mental health support services including an up-to-date list of providers.
