
Girls now make up a quarter of all Scouts, with young women accounting for almost three-quarters of the association’s new youth recruits, figures show. The Telegraph reports there are 144,000 girls and women holding a scouting membership, of which 92,000 are girls and young women. ?In addition, of the 7,851 young people who joined the Scout Association last year, 5,572 were female. ?
A Taunton-based charity that provides youth work training and educational support has gone into administration after its partners suffered funding cuts. The BBC reports Learning South West, which has supported youth workers and teachers for 68 years, said it “deeply regretted” the decision to cease trading, which will see up to 10 jobs lost.
A new domestic abuse support service for people aged 16 and older is to be developed by LGBT Youth Scotland in partnership with Sacro, Shakti Women’s Aid and Respect UK. It will aim to reach out to those who are less inclined to access domestic abuse services, including survivors from the black and ethnic minority community, members of the lesbian, gay, bisexual or transgender community and male survivors.
?Volunteers at a youth centre in Wiltshire are looking to save the centre following recent cuts to services by Wiltshire Council. The Gazette and Herald reports the volunteers at Marlborough Youth Centre in St Margaret’s Mead are looking at options in the hope the centre can be taken on from the council. ?
?Youth organisation London Youth is partnering with CVC Capital Partners to offer its members small grants to run activities for young people during the summer holidays. Grants of up to £5,000 are available to its members to run projects to be delivered between July and August as part of the Summer Grants scheme. ?
