Youth justice roundup: Cuts, merger guidance, and prison visit

Youth Justice
Jobs at a youth offending service at risk of being axed; new guidance on how to successfully merge YOTs published; and young people visit a prison through a police scheme, all in the news.

More than half-a-dozen jobs from a youth offending service in Wales could be axed in a bid to find savings for next year. The Abergavenny Chronicle reports that Monmouthshire's youth offending service must find £155,000 in savings or seven jobs could be axed.

The Youth Justice Board has published new guidance on how youth offending teams can successfully merge. It comes in response to requests from services for practical help when faced with an impending merger with another YOT or team within the same local authority.

A group of young people have visited Lancaster Prison as part of a programme run by Greater Manchester Police. Rochdale Online reports that the programme aims to keep young people away from anti-social activities by learning new skills and improving their confidence.
