The committee, made up of 11 young people aged between 13 and 18, will explore issues around the awareness and prevention of racism and religious discrimination.?
The inquiry will also look at issues the topic presents in education and services for young people under the age of 25. ??
??Working together to combat racism and religious discrimination, particularly against people who are Muslim and Jewish, was chosen as a national campaigning issue by BYC’s UK Youth Parliament (UKYP) in November last year. ?
Bronagh Hughes, the 17-year-old chair of the youth select committee, said racism and religious discrimination are “extremely important issues”.
“Last year’s passionate UKYP debate highlights that young people feel more must be done to tackle it,” Hughes said.??
“It is important that young people engage with politics and as a committee we are keen to hear what people have to say about this issue.”
??The committee is calling for any written evidence to be provided by noon on 31 May.
??Young people, service providers, researchers and campaigners have all been encouraged to submit evidence. Oral evidence sessions will then be held in the House of Commons in June and July.?
