
According to a report by the area’s local Community Safety Partnership Board, youth crime in the area fell by 28 per cent over the past year, while there was a 15 per cent drop in total crime during the same period.
Reports of antisocial behaviour have also dropped by 21 per cent, the figures reveal.
Tackling youth crime remains one of the Community Safety Partnership Board’s priorities for the coming year, as will tackling alcohol-related crime and addressing the public perception of crime.
Activity pencilled in for the next 12 months includes a public awareness drive to improve perceptions of young people and helping schools better understand how alcohol can harm young people.
A sex education programme will also be extended in March 2013 to focus on the impact of alcohol use, while the board plans to use school attendance records to help target young people with alcohol problems who need support.
