Youth Crime Action Plan update pledges more family intervention

1 min read Youth Justice
The government has called on local authorities to crack down on out-of-control families to prevent their children getting involved in crime.

As part of a host of measures introduced on the back of the first anniversary of the Youth Crime Action Plan (YCAP), local authorities in England are being asked to expand Family Intervention Projects (FIPs).

In addition to this, an extra £6m from the Department of Health will go towards funding dedicated health workers alongside every FIP in the country over the next two years.

The government has also set out plans for turning around Youth Offending Teams (YOTs) where there are serious concerns.

This includes imposing targets requiring YOTs to improve and sending in a team of youth justice experts to help improve practice.
