Youth charity unaffected by commercial problems

Youth Work
The youth work carried out by the charity Weston Spirit is to continue despite its commercial arm going into liquidation.

Weston Spirit Trading (WST) was placed in voluntary liquidation two weeks ago. But the chief executive of Weston Spirit, Nick Marr, has said the decision will have no impact on the work of the charity.

WST was set up in 2000 as a social enterprise. It provided a range of training to adults in the voluntary, private and public sector, as well as business support.

Profits from the business were used to support the charity. But the lack of profit in recent years means the closure of the business will have no impact on the funds available for work with young people.

Marr said: “WST achieved recent success in securing a number of training contracts, however the long-term financial projections combined with an extremely competitive market has result in us taking this decision.”
