A Demos report on Mosaic mentoring programmes, which were founded by the Prince of Wales, concluded that they offered positive outcomes for both mentors and their mentees, including raised aspirations and improved "soft skills".
Young people were questioned at the beginning of the programme and again six months into it.
The mentoring programme was associated with a 10.7 per cent increase in the likelihood of the young participants wanting to go university after the programme.
There was a 17 per cent relative increase in young people's belief that they could get into a university if they applied, and a 9.8 per cent relative increase in the mentees’ views that they would be happier in 12 months' time.
