The Youth Justice Board (YJB) hopes the reoffending toolkit will become a key measure for helping YOTs tackle stubbornly high reoffending rates by a hardcore of young offenders.
The toolkit has already been lauded for helping cut the number of young offenders who repeatedly offend in parts of the country where it has been piloted since last year, with an updated version set to be available for use from 1 April.
The resource enables YOTs to better analyse data on offending behaviour and the characteristics of those perpetrating it, so that prevention strategies can be developed and resources allocated.
Mike Galikowski, youth offending team manager in Dudley, said his area is planning to use the toolkit because it will help teams focus on the specific needs of reoffenders.
