
Writing in the YJB's fortnightly bulletin to youth offending teams, the organisation's chief executive Colin Allars said the process of implementing a split in the functions of the YJB, as outlined by former Justice Secretary Liz Truss in February, has begun.
He said that staff have been informed whether they will remain with the YJB, move to the newly created Youth Custody Service, which has been established as a "distinct arm" of HM Prison and Probation Service (HMPPS), or the Ministry of Justice's commissioning directorate.
Staff are set to transfer on 1 September 2017.
The Youth Custody Service will run youth custody, while responsibility and accountability for commissioning youth custody services will be taken on by the Ministry of Justice.
