The report DIY Professionalism: Futures for teaching said teachers todayhave more varied roles than in the past - including ensuring childsafety, searching young adults for weapons and regenerating wholecommunities - and feel they have much less control over their work.
As a result, according to the report, teachers are harking back to ashared view of the profession's past which "draws on the idea of agolden age, during which teachers were independent, highly respected andhad clearly limited responsibilities".
