Williamson told MPs yesterday (30 June) that he wanted to see school restrictions, including whole year group “bubbles” having to self-isolate when one child tests positive, lifted alongside general restrictions on 19 July.

“I do not think it is acceptable that children should face greater restrictions than wider society, especially since they have given up so much to keep older generations safe,” he said.

“Further steps” will be taken to reduce the number of children self-isolating, Williamson said, adding he was working with new Health Secretary Sajid Javid to remove “bubbles” before the summer break.
