The initiative, led by the My Life My Say (MLMS) youth movement, aims to hold the government accountable for its manifesto promise covering all UK elections, and to “get votes at 16 over the line by summer 2026”
The project, whose name is a play on the idea of a ‘version 16’ computer system upgrade, is being unveiled at events in London and Manchester today.
Addresses of support were expected from MPs including minister for democracy Rushanara Ali, Manchester Mayor Andy Burnham and influencer and violence against women and girls campaigner Sharon Gaffka.
The campaign says it is “powered by” a coalition of thirty organisations across the four nations, including the National Union of Students, the National Youth Agency, and a wide range of charities and corporate partners, “working toward a more inclusive and updated democracy”.
