The London Borough of Lambeth, where two teenagers were killed, plans tospend 1.7m on youth services during the next three years. Thecash will pay for intervention projects that will work with the police,local schools and social services to identify children at risk ofgetting involved in gun crime.
A reparations programme that shows young offenders the consequences oftheir crimes will also be funded with the money.
Labour councillor Steve Reed, the leader of Lambeth council, said: "Thecouncil has been working hard to address the underlying issues of gangculture, associated with drugs, and will bring together communityleaders, the police, head teachers, youth workers, faith group leadersand others to explore how best we can act in partnership to tackle thesecomplex issues and move forward."
