
High profile youth work organisations, including Scouts, UK Youth and the British Youth Council say the money is needed to avert a funding crisis in youth services, as youth workers battle to support young people amid the pandemic.
They have reminded the Conservative government that its party manifesto ahead of the 2019 general election promised to create a £500m Youth Investment Fund for young people’s services.
“However this manifesto commitment has still not materialised,” states an open letter signed by the coalition members and backed by celebrities including the actors Thandie Newton and Kathy Burke as well as charity sector organisations including chief executives group ACEVO and Charity Finance Group.
