
Thousands of schools have been affected by industrial action today (30 June) co-ordinated by the National Union of Teachers (NUT) and the Association of Teachers and Lecturers.
Speaking to The Times, NUT leader Christine Blower said her members are likely to join a concerted campaign by other unions, which could last up to three months, if talks fail. "This is a co-ordinated campaign and we happen to be in the first phase of it," she said.
The Department for Education has said at least 5,400 schools are affected by today’s strike. "We expect this to cause considerable disruption to parents, pupils and the wider community," a statement read.
