Tories condemn antisocial behaviour policy

The Conservatives have attacked the government for failing to tackle antisocial behaviour.

In a speech made in Salford, Conservative Party leader David Cameron accused the Prime Minister, Gordon Brown, of "washing his hands" of the Respect Action Plan.

This was launched in 2006, and was intended to move forward the work the government had done to address antisocial behaviour.

In a satirical review of the plan, Fallen into Dis-Respect, Conservative MP James Brokenshire claims the government has failed to tackle antisocial behaviour or increase respect.

Cameron said the solution to problems of violence on the streets is to create a "social covenant" where government and society work together to address the issue.

"It's time for a new approach. One based on a new optimism: where we say we can take back our streets and we can build a better society," he said.
