Teacher who secretly filmed pupils acted 'in public interest'

1 min read Education
A teacher accused of secretly filming unruly pupils for a Channel 4 documentary has won the backing of former chief inspector of schools Chris Woodhead.

Woodhead is to defend Alexandra Dolan, who is accused of unacceptable professional conduct, at a General Teaching Council (GTC) hearing this week.

He is expected to claim Dolan's actions were in the public interest.

Dolan is alleged to have secretly filmed pupils at four schools in Leeds and London while working as a supply teacher in 2004 and 2005.

Her footage apparently showed teachers at the schools attempting to hide pupil misbehaviour from Ofsted inspectors.

Dolan told the GTC that she filmed the children to expose poor classroom standards. But a head teacher from one of the schools claimed she had broken her pupils' trust.
