As part of preparations for the impact of the swine flu pandemic on the youth secure estate, the YJB will carry on placing young people in the "most appropriate" units, even if there has been an outbreak of the virus.
In a letter to YJB staff, Peter Minchin, head of the YJB placement and casework service, said no special measures would be taken because so far the current risks were "relatively mild".
Young people suffering from medical conditions making them more at risk of developing complications from swine flu may be treated differently, he added.
"If a young person is suffering from a listed condition, or is pregnant, it may be inappropriate to place them in an establishment that has instances of swine influenza," said Minchin.
