Study reveals pandemic’s impact on young people’s career and study plans

The survey found that almost two thirds of young people have changed their further and higher education plans, and three in five have altered their career plans.

Girls, pupils from disadvantaged backgrounds and those attending state comprehensive schools are among young people most likely to have changed their plans, found the survey carried out by Sutton Trust and University College London (UCL).

While 63 per cent of girls have changed their career plans, the proportion dips to 56 per cent among boys.

Three in five young people in families in low-income households have altered their career plans compared with just over half of those whose parents are in senior managerial or professional roles.
