The research found children ate fewer burgers and pizza during summer holidays and found exercise more fun than in term-time.
More than half (57 per cent) said exercise during the summer holidays was more fun and 61 per cent ate fewer burgers than they did during the school term.
The study was carried out by a a group of 12-year-olds from Worle Community School in Weston-super-Mare assisted by the Open University’s Children’s Research Centre.
“With the child obesity problems we are facing, making exercise fun is key – this is one of the strong messages from the research,” said Mary Kellett, director of the Children’s Research Centre.
