Strip Randstad of NTP contract if targets not met, MPs urge

The Department for Education must consider stripping consultancy firm Randstad of its £5bn contract to run the National Tutoring Programme (NTP) if targets are not met to support disadvantaged pupils within months, MPs have said.

Research by the education select committee, which evaluates the success of the government’s catch-up programme for schools, finds that Randstad has met just 15 per cent of its overall target to deliver tutoring to two million children.

Randstad “is clearly not delivering on its targets”, MPs say, adding that if this continues DfE should terminate its contract by spring.

In a series of recommendations published as part of the report, the committee calls on the government to publish statistics on a half-termly basis on the number of starts under the NTP including data on regional disparities, disadvantaged pupils and those with special educational needs.
