The review, announced by Chancellor Rishi Sunak earlier today, set out plans for billions of pounds of government spending to support the economy through the Covid-19 pandemic.

This includes confirmation of £1.6 billion for the Kickstart scheme in 2021/22, which will fund more than 250,000 fully subsidised jobs for young people aged 16-24 at risk of long-term unemployment.

Latest official figures show 174,000 young people lost their jobs in the third quarter of the year, while research by the Resolution Foundation last month found 18-24 year olds have been the worst affected economically by the pandemic.

Sunak also announced £200m would be available to fund measures in the summer’s Plan for Jobs, which included the Youth Offer, Job Entry Targeted Support scheme and Sector Based Work Academy programme. An extra £1.8bn will be provided to fund other measures in the plan including doubling the number of Job Centre Plus work coaches.
