The Zone Youth Club in Burnham-On-Sea closed earlier in the year after a shortage of volunteers meant that it couldn’t sustain its weekly term-time sessions.

Local mental health support charity In Charley’s Memory reopened the club to support children in the area.

In Charley’s Memory is a charity created in memory of Burnham teenager Charley Marks, who took his own life in 2014. Charley’s mother set up the charity to raise awareness of youth mental health, and works with counsellors across Somerset to provide an affordable service to young people.

Jamie Scanlon, chief operating officer of In Charley’s Memory, told CYP Now: “We were kindly invited to attend The Zone’s closing party and were immediately cornered by a group of young people who couldn't wait to tell us how much they loved their youth club, and how sad they were that it was closing. It became apparent that there was no way we could walk away and that we already had the infrastructure to take on The Zone as a project.
