Social Work Reform Board report 'lacks teeth'

2 mins read Social Care
The Social Work Reform Board's latest annual report lacks conviction and has no "teeth", the British Association of Social Workers (BASW) has claimed.

The progress report, Building a Safe and Confident Future: One Year On, gives an overview of the work of the reform board over the past year.

It builds on the 15 recommendations of the Social Work Task Force and sets out the working conditions that social workers should expect from their employers in terms of supervision, opportunities for development and caseloads.

For the first time, there will be a single national set of standards outlining what social workers are expected to do at every point in their career. This is intended to bring the profession in line with other public sector workers including doctors, nurses and teachers.
