Secure Accommodation Network chair stands down

Youth Justice
The chair of the Secure Accommodation Network has been forced to quit as the children's home that he manages is on the verge of closure.

Roy Walker stood down this week after Sutton Place Safe Centre failed to win a new contract with the Youth Justice Board. The Hull-based unit, which has eight places, will close at the end of June.

Walker has been replaced by former vice-chair Andy Copp, manager of the Red Bank Community Home, Merseyside.

Keith Smith, manager of the Vinney Green secure children's home in South Gloucestershire, will be the new vice-chair.

Walker said: "We had talks at the network and decided that as I will no longer be a manager it would be inappropriate for me to carry on as chair. It is also right that I use this time now to concentrate on finding alternative posts for staff and places for the young people."
