School dinners on the up

1 min read Education Health
More than three million pupils are eating school dinners daily, an increase of 50,000 on last year's total, according to a new report.

But the survey – which was published by the School Food Trust and the Local Authority Caterers Association – showed that only 37.2 per cent of secondary school children have school lunch, a slight fall on last year’s total of 37.7 per cent.

The report also revealed that 43 per cent of primary school children have school lunch, compared to 41 per cent the previous year.

Meanwhile, the government has confirmed that £46.9m will be made available to build new school kitchens in 15 local authorities. They are: West Sussex, Swindon, North East Lincolnshire, Lincolnshire, North Somerset, Dorset, Wigan, Harrow, Hillingdon, Plymouth, Buckinghamshire, Bournemouth, Northamptonshire, Kingston upon Thames, and Worcestershire.
