Refugee and Migrant Justice loses fight to stay in business

A last-ditch attempt to save Refugee and Migrant Justice (RMJ) from closure has failed.

The charity announced that it had entered administration last week, blaming late payment of legal aid by the Legal Services Commission. An emergency appeal raised more than £76,000, but last-minute talks with the commission have proven unsuccessful.

Union Unite staged a demonstration outside the Ministry of Justice on Friday in a bid to avert the closure.

RMJ chief executive Caroline Slocock said: "During this period, we have received the most amazing support and we were overwhelmed and touched by the offers of financial help in response to our campaign.  We would like to thank everyone who has tried to save RMJ and very much regret that it has not been possible."
