The Pre-School Learning Alliance has called on families and early years workers to continue their efforts to oppose plans to allow childcare professionals to care for greater numbers of children.
Neil Leitch, chief executive of the alliance, said the government had ignored the views of almost 80,000 people who have signed petitions against the proposal and urged opponents of the policy to sign the alliance's government e-petition.
If the total number of signatures on the Rewind on Ratios e-petition reaches 10,000 the government will be obliged to respond to it.
If the number tops 100,000 then it will trigger a debate in parliament.
