Prime Minister pledges to tackle knife crime

Gordon Brown has said he will do everything he can to deal with gun and knife crime, particularly among young people.

He told his monthly press conference that he is considering "all possible measures" to tackle the problem.

There were several fatal stabbings involving young people over Christmas and New Year, and the Home Secretary, Jacqui Smith, is expected to make a statement on how the government intends to address the issue in the near future.
