The Independent Police Complaints Commission is investigating the case, in which the young man tried to escape officers who were responding to reports of threats against a woman. Officers used CS spray and restraint techniques during the arrest, and the young man was taken to hospital while in custody after concerns for his wellbeing were raised.
Derby Constabulary was legally obliged to refer the case to the IPCC, but the 17-year-old has since made a formal complaint against two of the officers involved in his arrest.
IPCC commissioner Amerdeep Somal said: "We will be examining the circumstances surrounding the arrest and detention of this man, particularly around his detention at the station and the level of care provided. We will also be looking at custody policies and procedures and whether these were adhered to."
