Founded in 1972, Play Matters helps young children and families to access play opportunities through initiatives such as toy libraries as well as providing adult education services.
The merger takes place after Play Matters received a grant from the government’s transition fund for voluntary and community organisations.
Sir Paul Ennals, NCB chief executive, said: "Play Matters has played a vital role over many years in supporting the toy library movement to reach many more children and families, especially disadvantaged children and families.
"With the support of this grant, we will seek to ensure that toy libraries are well supported in the years ahead, and that the legacy and the learning from Play Matters and its staff is properly honoured, as well as continuing our work to improve the lives of all children and young people."
Play Matters chief executive Pauline Henniker said the merger will enable the aims of the charity to continue.
"We have a long history of bringing joy and fun to many children’s lives by ensuring they can access play through toy libraries," she said. "We have also played a vital role in helping families in need, providing adult education services and enabling disadvantaged children and their families to access not only toys but other frontline services. We hope to continue to build on this legacy."
