
A national funding formula had been proposed by ministers last year, but in its latest school funding reform consultation document, the Department for Education has instead said it will "start to put the building blocks in place" for this to be introduced during the next spending review in 2015.

The document outlines proposals to reduce the number of factors used to determine school funding. Ministers want funding to focus more on the needs of pupils, be responsive to pupil numbers and ensure there is consistency across maintained schools and academies.
